It was the desperation in the lines that caught my ear. Like knowing your goal, the girl, but being so helpless, you can’t seem to find peace in any activity. I’m not sure what the real story is, all us fans have come up with different scenarios, some are really amazing, some paint a brilliant picture. You can check the comments on some of the YouTube Lyric videos of this song. In my opinion, the guy is desperately looking for this girl he’s in love with. I would like to think he is sane, but the hypothesis that he is mentally ill makes more sense. The flashbacks in the song are beautifully portrayed. His grief and agony can be heard in his voice. The girl’s lines suggest she is dead, also that she’s done a horrible deed, and she can’t come back. Another hypothesis may be that she’s behind bars. But, the lines that she’s at home in the clouds suggest she’s in heaven. What bothers me the most are the lines “I guess I’ll go home now.” I hope the real story, whatever it is justifies the last lines. Until then, the entire song is an absolute delight and a wonderful story filled with intense love and struggle, except the last line.
