The reason why this song caught my attention was because it had Spiderman and Batman in it, and also I’m a huge Coldplay fan. The music is indeed sweet and nice, but the story matters the most. While the overall gist is spot on, the guy looks at all the superheroes and their great feats, clearly knowing he’ll never be able to compete with anyone of them, but the girl doesn’t expect a superhero, or a fantastic tale to unfold in her life, all she wants is someone she can hold. I loved the ‘Doo Doo Doo’ part throughout the song. I have very less knowledge about Hercules and Achilles, so I’m not going to comment on that halve. When we speak of Batman, he does tend to use his fists, but he’s much more known for his gadgets, detective skills, dark form of justice, and strike fear in the heart of his enemies. Batman also avoids guns at all costs because his parents were killed by a gun. I would have preferred the line “Batman with his cowl/tech’, but ‘fists’ is also okay. When we speak of Spiderman, there is absolutely no relevance. Spiderman is a teen in a few versions, a young man in the others, he is known to be a struggling individual who in spite of all his troubles takes the responsibility of saving people in need. ‘With great power comes great responsibility’. 'Spiderman’s control’ makes no sense to me as a huge comic book and superhero fan. I would have preferred ‘Spiderman’s resolve’. Furthermore, the writer also talks about Superman, which is pretty straightforward, but I would have preferred something about him being the ‘Man of Steel’ or being ‘A symbol of hope’. I wish Chris Martin had researched the superheroes a bit better, would have made the song perfect. Regardless of its imperfections, it is indeed an awesome song.
